A police spokesman said officers waited for the man to return at which point they summonsed him to appear in Midland Magistrate Court on October 2 for failing to comply with a direction under the Emergency Management Act.

The man was then stopped by police doing a routine traffic patrol in Midland on August 27 when they found the 37-year-old driving a vehicle, again in breach of his quarantine direction.

He was arrested and taken to the Perth Watch House before appearing by video link at Midland Magistrate Court the next day.

He was remanded in custody until September 11.

The man appeared in Midland Magistrates Court on Friday and was sentenced to a total of two months imprisonment for each charge of failing to comply with a direction and six months imprisonment for no authority to drive, backdated to August 27.

Additionally, his driver’s licence was disqualified for nine months after driving while his licence was suspended.
